Privacy
TL;DR
We collect almost nothing. No IP addresses, no cookies, no logs. The only data stored is your checklist progress (saved locally on your device) and basic page view stats (with no personal info). Everything else is deliberately NOT collected to protect your privacy.
Our privacy policy is different - we'll explain the lengths we go to to not collect identifiable information about you.
Our approach to privacy isn't about legal compliance - it's about doing everything we can to protect your privacy and security.
We know that sites like this can become the target of state surveillance, so we went to great lengths to collect as little identifiable information as possible to protect you while browsing this site.
What we do NOT track
We've intentionally designed this site to be as privacy-protective as possible:
❌ No IP addresses are ever logged
❌ No cookies are stored on your device
❌ No external services or third-party libraries are loaded in your browser that could expose your personal information (IP address)
❌ None of your personal information is ever collected on our servers or sent to any third-party servers.
What we do track
Minimal Infrastructure We've built this site using the simplest possible tools to ensure maximum privacy:
✅ We chose May First as our web host specifically because they support activist projects like ours.
✅ We have disabled all logging for this site (no visitor logs, no IP address logs, no error logs). If May First were ever to receive a subpoena requesting a list of visitors to our website, there would be nothing for them to turn over.
✅ We use a very lightweight website framework that we've carefully audited to ensure there's no hidden tracking or logging.
✅ We do track a bit of information in an anonymous way to help us understand how folks are using this site. (see below)
You can also read May First's privacy policy.
The only data we store on your device: checklist completions
The only data stored on your device is your checklist progress, which stays in your browser's local storage and never leaves it.
If you want to remove the information we store in your browser, here’s how:
Brave/Chrome: Click lock icon in address bar → Cookies and Site Data → Manage site data → Press trash can icon.
Firefox: Click lock icon in address bar → Clear cookies and site data → Confirm.
Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data → Select site → Remove.
The only data we collect on our server: page view statistics
We do the most minimal tracking of page views to understand which sections of our site are most helpful to you.
We only record the following pieces of information and store them on our server:
pageview info: which page was viewed and when
browser info: browser type, operating system, referring page, and device screen size
checkbox statistics: checkbox items clicked and checkbox sections expanded
file downloads: which file was downloaded
searches: the text of your search query
generic location: We send a version of your IP address that has about half of the IP address info removed before it reaches ours servers. This allows us to approximate your location to a country but not ever store your specific location. We random a part of the IP address that changes every 24 hours, so you aren't identifiable across visits on different days.
We do not collect or store any personal information like full IP addresses or exact location
We do not track you across different websites or have any services on our site that could track your usage of our site
We do not sell or give any of this information to any other entity
This simple page view counter helps us improve the site's content while maintaining your privacy.
This data is stored on a privacy-focused analytics platform called Umami. We host this on our own servers.

Contact form
If you message us using our contact form, the message is encrypted before being sent to our Proton Mail account. Sharing your email address is optional. If you do share your email address for us to reply and it's not a Proton Mail address, your email provider will be able to see our conversation once we reply.

Newsletter
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we save your email address in a database stored on our server for maximum security.
We send emails directly from our server, rather than using newsletter tools, so your IP address and activity are protected. This tool does track link clicks, but it doesn’t attribute them to individuals, so your privacy is protected (and we can still see what’s working in our emails). It doesn’t keep logs or track IP addresses if you visit the unsubscribe page. (Our newsletter system is open source if you want to review it.)
If you want an extra layer of privacy, you can subscribe email anonymization service Proton Mail’s hide-my-email aliases (10 aliases on the free plan, unlimited on the paid plan) or addy.io (which offers unlimited aliases).
Questions?
If you have questions about our privacy practices or need to verify any of our claims, our entire website's code is open source and available for audit. We encourage you to inspect it yourself or have a trusted technical advisor review it.
If you have additional questions, please contact us.
